Healthcare Improvement Scotland is an organisation with many parts and one purpose – better quality health and social care for everyone in Scotland.

The NMAHP (Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals) Directorate is seeking to recruit a Health Services Researcher to support the delivery of the Excellence in Care Programme.  Excellence in Care is a national approach which aims to ensure people have confidence they will receive a consistent standard and quality of care no matter where they receive treatment in Scotland. A key component of Excellence in Care is the Care Assurance and Improvement Resource (CAIR), a central data repository and data visualisation system ‘dashboard’ that allows users to view and understand data, respond appropriately and plan improvement as required. The vision is that the CAIR Dashboard will inform quality of care reviews at national and local level, and drive quality improvement, as part of a Quality Management System Approach.

This role will involve carrying out detailed research to develop evidence-based reports, summaries and recommendations on the clinical effectiveness of various healthcare interventions that will then influence the development of Care quality measures. The candidate will be influencing and contributing to work delivered at a national level and will play a key role in ensuring that the right measurements of Care quality are captured across Scotland, to ensure quality services for patients and service users.

The ideal candidate would be familiar with undertaking systematic reviews of published evidence, and have an understanding of both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Experience of rapid approaches to the review of evidence would be beneficial. The positions require experienced, clear thinking individuals with a broad range of research skills, and excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to a numerate, biomedical discipline or social science degree, the post holder will be expected to have a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject and/or have extensive health services research experience.
