Scottish Mycobacteria Reference Laboratory (SMRL)
Clinical Microbiology
Full time post 37.5 hrs/week (Monday - Friday
Applications are invited for the position of Associate Clinical Scientist to join our skilled and motivated specialist mycobacteria team.
This is full-time, permanent post and is based within Scottish Mycobacteria Reference Laboratory (SMRL), which is integrated and co-located with the NHS Lothian Mycobacteria Laboratory at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh site.The appointee will divide their time between routine reference laboratory work and service development.
You will have good communication, organisational and analytical skills and experience of working in a routine clinical microbiology setting with molecular techniques. The successful applicant will preferably have experience of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to support the imminent roll-out of a WGS service for mycobacteria. Support will be given to candidates to obtain HCPC registration. The department offers opportunities to engage in CPD and further study.
You must possess a good honours degree in Microbiology or related subject. In addition, a relevant postgraduate degree is desirable.
