SMART Services – Scottish Driving Assessment Service, Clinical Assessment
An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist / Physiotherapist to join the Scottish Driving Assessment Service within the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh, a Medical Fitness to Drive Assessor. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland. The Scottish Driving Assessment Service is a national assessment and advice service, accepting referrals from all over Scotland.
As part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team (therapy and medical staff), the post holder will require to work as an independent practitioner to assess people to determine their medical fitness to drive a car, their need for adapted controls or their requirements while travelling as a passenger in a vehicle. The post holder will take an active clinical role using a high level of assessment and clinical reasoning. They will be responsible for maximising service provision, including the delivery of safe and effective clinical practice in conjunction with the Clinical and Team Lead. The post holder will be expected to participate in SMART wide initiatives of Quality and Clinical Governance.
