Job Advert

Advanced Nurse Practitioner Vacancy

Eyemouth Medical Practice is seeking to recruit an additional Advanced Nurse Practitioner to strengthen our team. The ideal candidate would hold an independent prescribing qualification. This is strongly preferred but not absolutely essential.

The ANP role is now well established in the practice and accepted by patients. We would anticipate the new post holder to fulfil a role very similar to that of our current ANP although we appreciate that previous experience may affect the range of suitable conditions appropriate for the individual’s caseload. The role focuses on the triage and assessment of a wide range of acute, undifferentiated presentations alongside the review and follow up of cases for continuity. Consultations may also include elements of chronic disease management and health promotion. The ideal candidate would be able to work with a high level of autonomy with GP advice to hand as needed.

Eyemouth is located on the south east coast of Scotland just north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Our practice community extends south from the fishing harbour of Eyemouth to Burnmouth and the border with England. We also cover inland to Duns and north along the A1 corridor to just north of Cockburnspath at the boundary with Lothian. Despite being a quiet, rural town – Eyemouth is within easy reach of both Newcastle Upon Tyne and Edinburgh. There is also close access to East Coast mainline trains which will improve further with the planned opening of Reston station. There are excellent recreational opportunities within the area including Coldingham sands for surfing, St Abbs for diving within the Marine reserve, fishing on the Tweed, shooting and cycling.

The practice list size is around 6,500 and rising. The current clinical team consists of 3 GP partners, 2 salaried GPs, a prescribing ANP, a prescribing nurse practitioner, practice nurses and a phlebotomist. The practice has an ethos of mentorship and support. We are currently training a trainee PCIP ANP. We are a close, cohesive team with good administrative support, a sense of humour and a pragmatic approach to general practice. We have a track record of being flexible, adaptable and resourceful. The practice currently benefits from the support from the pharmacotherapy team, first contact physio service and a primary care mental health hub all aimed at delivering the new GMS contract. It is expected that vaccination services will move out of practices by the end of 2021. The practice team benefits from being co-located with a wide range of allied health professionals working from a shared Health Centre.

We value diversity and variation within our clinical team so would be comfortable taking an approach that suits individual applicants. The practice can offer flexibility around working patterns and hours. Development opportunities and special areas of clinical interest will be fostered to allow for career and practice progression. Strong working relationships, shared values and professionalism are highly valued by the partners so we would be keen to accommodate informal enquiries and further discussions on what the practice can offer.
