SCOTTISH GENETICS CONSORTIUM LABORATORY, ABERDEEN
BAND 7 LIMS/IT Manager
Fixed term post: 12 months – 18.75 hours
Applications are invited for a temporary 0.5WTE Band 7 LIMS/IT manager post in the Aberdeen Genetics Laboratory. The Aberdeen laboratory is part of the Scottish Genetics Consortium funded by the National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland.
This post is to develop and implement a new LIMS within the Genetics Laboratory, and take responsibility for project management. Additionally, the post holder will support the Head of Laboratory Genetics in the continuing development of Information Technology within the department. The successful individual will work closely with the Laboratories IT team in the development of the LIMS project, interfacing the LIMS with existing NHS portals, and with Genetics staff in the specific configuration of the system for use in the Genetics Laboratories. The individual will be jointly line managed by Heads of Laboratory Genetics and Laboratory IT.
Experience and qualifications
Applicants should possess an appropriate Masters degree, or degree equivalent, or be able to demonstrate relevant specialist knowledge to an equivalent level.
Knowledge of operational diagnostic Medical Laboratory Technology and of relevant Information Technology is also required. This will require an in depth specialist knowledge of genetics/laboratory or IM&T procedures. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and enterprise database technologies is also desirable.
There will be considerable interaction with technologists, scientists and clinical colleagues within the Genetics department, Labs IT, the LIMS provider, eHealth and other health board IT departments.
