Job Advert
This post is fixed term for 6 months.
This is a rare opportunity for an individual who is passionate about using evidence and digital technology to help professionals and citizens to make the best possible decisions about health and care.
Your knowledge and information management skills will play a key role in supporting delivery of the national decision support programme as a component of Scotland’s Digital Health and Care Strategy. Based within the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Knowledge Services team, you will work closely with the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI), which leads delivery of the national decision support programme and commissions the Glasgow Knowledge Services team to provide knowledge management expertise.
You will use the decision support builder tools within the national decision support platform - the Right Decision Service - to contribute to delivery of web and mobile decision support tools, both standalone and integrated with electronic health record systems. Key elements of the role include:
- Engaging with health and social care professionals, patients, carers and citizens, to understand their knowledge and information needs and how digital decision support tools can help.
- Communicating these user needs to software developers and acting as the intermediary between the development team and end-users.
- Defining information structure for web and mobile applications. This may include wireframing and site map definition.
- Analysing content of guidelines and other evidence resources, and translating that content into decision-ready (actionable)language and formats, so that people can use it quickly and easily. This includes supporting the wider team in defining structured rules (algorithms), based on validated evidence. These form the basis of intelligent decision support tools.
- Using the Right Decision Service content management system, cataloguing and indexing tools, and a range of multimedia and graphics tools to deliver engaging and accessible content.
- Conducting and coordinating user acceptance and usability testing.
- Supporting compliance with quality assurance and regulatory standards for decision support tools – for example, by contributing to clinical risk assessment, clinical evaluation and usability reports.
- Communication, training and support to build confidence and skills in using the Right Decision Service tools and to facilitate widespread adoption.
- Contributing to evaluation of decision support tools and making recommendations for improvement.
How you will make a difference
These quotes from clinicians illustrate the impact of the tools delivered by the programme:
"This is a game-changing clinical calculator tool. Its ease of use reduces barriers to appropriate consideration and testing for delirium, and the ready availability of a mobile-based app will facilitate its use in every patient encounter." Consultant, Geriatric Medicine, NHS Lothian.
“This is the realisation of a quest for a single portal of information…... a catalyst for development of smoother and more efficient patient journeys.” Associate Medical Director, NHS Lanarkshire.
Examples of the types of tools you will help to build are available at the following URLs (mobile app versions can be downloaded from the app stores):
- Polypharmacy: Manage Medicines
- SIGN Decision Support
- NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Paediatrics
- Video showing decision support alerts created by the Right Decision Service embedded in an electronic health record system.
The shift pattern is to be determined
