Job Advert

Applications are invited for 2 x Specialist Trainee (ST3 or above) (LAT) in Emergency Medicine with immediate start.
The posts will be based within the Emergency Medicine Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH). The successful candidates will rotate through both units as part of our established middle grade team.
The Emergency Department at ARI opened in December 2012 and deals with all adult Emergency Medicine patients from the city of Aberdeen and surrounding areas and sees approximately 45,000 new patients per annum. Given the unique geographic location, the department sees a varied case mix including provision of care to the offshore industry and provides top side advice to the coast guard and shipping industry within Scottish coastal waters. ARI is a designated Major Trauma Centre and the only hospital in Scotland with all acute adult specialties situated on-site.
The Emergency Department at RACH, although separate from ARI, is co-joined to the Adult Department and cares for children up to the age of 16 years. The department sees approximately 11,000 new patients per year and has four EM Consultants with subspecialist training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine and is a recognised Paediatric Emergency Medicine Subspecialist Training Centre. It is the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for the North of Scotland. The RACH staff also provide support to children in remote locations in many peripheral Minor Injury Units via Telemedicine links, often reducing unnecessary journeys across the region.
The North of Scotland deanery has a well-established governance, teaching and training structure for Emergency Medicine including monthly teaching sessions targeting the Royal College of Emergency Medicine curriculum and competencies. The consultant body are experienced educational supervisors and have supported many trainees through application into training or to achieve CESR in Emergency Medicine.
The North of Scotland and Grampian area certainly has something for everyone. We have already eluded to the varied geography within the job description. From the rugged coastline to the rolling hills and everything in between, there are endless opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy your downtime. Aberdeen has good transport links to the rest of the UK and has an international airport on the city bounds.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that this placement and / or programme has the required educational and Postgraduate Dean's approval.
