An opportunity has arisen within the Orkney Health and Care mental health services for an enthusiastic psychologist, with substantial experience of working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.

If you are a confident, creative individual who is able to work independently and as part of a wider team then this could be the job for you. The post sits within the wider established community mental health services in Orkney which offer evidence-based interventions to address the mental health difficulties for the population of Orkney. Orkney’s CAMHS services are well regarded in the North of Scotland and are supported clinically by NHS Grampian clinicians through established formal links.  Management supervision will also be provided locally within the management structure.

The post holder will provide evidence based psychological, and profession specific assessments and interventions to children, young people and their families working autonomously within professional guidelines.

This job entails working with children, young people and their families at home, school or and the post holder will have clinical responsibility for own caseload.  The post holder will provide high intensity psychological interventions to individuals referred to the service.

You should have substantial experience of working in as a psychological therapy practitioner.  You must be qualified to degree level and hold a post graduate diploma in CBT, counselling, psychotherapy, or other relevant and equivalent therapy.

Orkney may bring to mind certain images, but the chances are they are, to say the least, a little off the mark. Sure, we're a bit off the beaten track, but the needs of our community are just the same as anywhere else. And, as a result, the opportunities we can offer you are comparable with those you'll find elsewhere. Of course, there are a few differences: for starters Orkney consists of 100,000 hectares spread over 70+ small islands (19 of which are inhabited), so, like our service users, you'll need to make the most of the transportation links which are vital to Orkney's social and economic well-being.

NHS Orkney is the smallest of the territorial Boards, but we can offer some big challenges. And big opportunities. This could be your big chance to make the move and make a difference.
