An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Orkney Health and Care, mental health services for an enthusiastic psychology practitioner with substantial experience of working with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
If you are a confident, creative individual who is able to work independently and as part of a wider team then this could be the job for you. The post sits within the wider established community mental health services in Orkney which offer evidence-based interventions to address the mental health difficulties for the population of Orkney. Orkney’s CAMHS services are well regarded in the North of Scotland and are supported clinically by NHS Grampian clinicians through established formal links. Management supervision will also be provided locally within the management structure.
The post holder will provide evidence-based, specialist psychological therapy to clients with a broad range of mental health problems. This will involve both individual and group-based interventions.
The post holder will be required to provide evidence-based psychological, neuro-developmental, and profession specific assessments and interventions to children, young people and their families within health, school and community settings, working autonomously within professional guidelines. You will require to have an honours degree in psychology (eligible for GBR) and a relevant Master’s degree or equivalent (preferably MSc in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People) and additional post qualification experience. Orkney may bring to mind certain images, but the chances are they are, to say the least, a little off the mark. Sure, we're a bit off the beaten track, but the needs of our community are just the same as anywhere else. And, as a result, the opportunities we can offer you are comparable with those you'll find elsewhere. Of course, there are a few differences: for starters Orkney consists of 100,000 hectares spread over 70+ small islands (19 of which are inhabited), so, like our service users, you'll need to make the most of the transportation links which are vital to Orkney's social and economic well-being.
For informal discussion please contact Dr Shona Battersby - CAMHS Clinical Psychologist, by email at shona.battersby@nhs.scot or Lynda Bradford - Head of Health and Community Care by email at lynda.bradford@orkney.gov.uk.
