Practice Nurse

Location: Whitesands Medical Practice, Dunbar Medical Centre, East Lothian

Salary: Variable dependent on experience

Grade: Not specified

Contract: Permanent

Closing date: 24/09/21

We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive registered nurse (ideally an established practice nurse) whose focus will be on chronic disease management with capacity to provide flexible nursing support to other members of the clinical team.  The role is thirty hours per week, ideally across five days, and we would be happy to consider a single candidate or two part-time positions.

Whitesands Medical Practice is one of three general practices in Dunbar Medical Centre.  We have around 5000 patients, four GP partners and a salaried GP.  We are fortunate to have a Community Treatment and Assessment Centre (CTAC) on-site, along with a wide multi-disciplinary team which includes district nurse, midwife and health visitor teams, in addition to the nursing teams of the other two practices.  We also have advanced physiotherapy practitioners, a substance misuse nurse and community link workers easily accessible in the building, along with some visiting specialist and allied health professional clinics.  We teach medical students and have plans to start GP training.  We currently use Vision and Docman clinical systems.

Our practice aims to provide good quality, holistic, flexible patient care, with an emphasis on continuity and realistic medicine within a mutually supportive team.  Our nursing team is integral to these aims.

We are reviewing our chronic disease and recall systems and restructuring our nursing team.  This presents an opportunity for the successful candidate(s) to influence the development of this role and the future direction of the practice, including collaborative working with the other practices at Dunbar Medical Centre.  The successful candidate(s) will work closely with our practice healthcare assistant/phlebotomist and the CTAC team.  Dunbar is growing rapidly, and we expect the team to expand in the future.  We are keen to support further professional training and there may be the opportunity to develop an advanced nurse practitioner role.

Dunbar is a popular coastal town with a broad social demographic.  It has a strong, progressive community ethos, amongst the highest sunshine hours in Scotland, beautiful countryside and beaches, good schools and easy rail access to Edinburgh.  What’s not to love?

We expect the starting date for this post to be around the 1st December 2021.  This could be earlier if a successful candidate is available, however we are prepared to wait for the right candidate.  Our proposed interview date is the afternoon (or evening) of Wednesday 29th September but this can be flexible.
