National Clinical Lead for Early Intervention in Psychosis – Psychiatrist

Secondment to March 2022 (2 session per week – 8 hours)

Commensurate with existing salary

Edinburgh or Glasgow - remote working will apply for the foreseeable future

Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s Improvement Hub (ihub) is seeking a National Clinical Lead Psychiatrist who will provide subject and improvement expertise, clinical assurance and visible clinical leadership to the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Programme.

Visible and active clinical engagement is central to the success of our work and will support the delivery of clinically effective care to patients. Phase 1 of the EIP programme established that people presenting for the first time with psychosis anywhere in Scotland should have timely access to effective care and treatment, with early intervention and a focus on recovery. Phase 2 of this work focusses on the following key delivery themes:

  • Stakeholder Engagement – work with people with lived experience is central to this programme;
  • Shared Learning - deliver a learning system offering opportunities to network and share practice across Scotland;
  • Data and Measurement - develop and test quality indicators for EIP services;
  • Service Delivery - work with pathfinder sites to test models of EIP service delivery; develop a knowledge and skills framework; develop and test "Essentials of EIP" training.

The successful candidate will work within Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s EIP team to provide advice and support to the services selected as pathfinder sites as they prototype and implement models of EIP locally and support other key deliverables of the programme. This role will involve working with senior clinicians and leadership teams in NHS boards, HSCPs, Third Sector, people with lived experience and with key national partners.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with extensive knowledge of mental health services and recent experience in the field of early intervention in psychosis. Exceptional team working, interpersonal and communication skills will be fundamental to success in this role, as well as the ability to build strong clinical networks. In addition, candidates will have experience and knowledge of Scottish health and social care systems and structures. This is a national role and although we are currently remote working from home, travel throughout Scotland may be required should Covd-19 restrictions allow.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a very dynamic team and make an important contribution to developing and implementing new models of care and improving personal outcomes for people in Scotland.

As a secondment opportunity, interested candidates will need the support of their existing manager/NHS Board before applying for the post.

Closing Date: Sunday 26 September 2021 at midnight.

It is anticipated that interviews will be held on or around 8 October 2021 via MS Teams.
