NHS Lothian maternity services are currently inviting qualified midwives to apply for Band 6 staff midwife positions with the NHS LOTHIAN HOMEBIRTH TEAM. These posts will be integrated within the community teams and are permanent, rotational posts offering various hours.

As an autonomous practitioner the post holder will plan and implement maternity care primarily to low risk women within an integrated homebirth/community team. Working with the ethos of Best Start at the forefront of care, this allows us to provide continuity from booking right through until postnatal discharge. You will also be required to work closely with the multi-professional team and in the absence of the Team Leader/Charge midwife,  the post holder may be required to provide cover to ensure effective operation within the homebirth integrated team.

Currently homebirths in Lothian account for less than 1% of babies born in Lothian and our vision is to increase this in the coming years. In order to do that we must ensure that there is a constant route for homebirth across the whole of our local maternity system, this will ensure that women can achieve the birth of their choice.

This is an exciting opportunity which allows you, as a member of the team to be a pioneer in the implementation of this gold standard service for the women and families of NHS Lothian.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
