An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Radiographer to join our highly motivated and friendly Medical Imaging team, for a 12 month, fixed term period to cover staff training.  NHS staff wishing to apply for this post as a secondment opportunity will need to discuss with their line manager before submitting an application.

Are you enthusiastic about living in an island community and being a member of a small but friendly and supportive team? Are you willing to learn and gain experience?  We welcome both newly qualified and more experienced applicants.  Our existing staff are highly experienced and can offer the right level of support and training to suit the successful candidate.

The Medical Imaging Department currently has a team of substantive and fixed term Radiographers and Sonographers working a combination of full and part time hours.

Our equipment includes a general DR room, CR room, a DR mobile, CR mobile, DR OPT/CEPH unit, a brand new 128 slice GE Revolution Evo CT scanner and 2 ultrasound rooms.  We are also currently in the process of setting up the UKs most northerly MRI service. We have a local PACS and are fully integrated with the Scottish national PACS system.

The department is within the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick; an island general/acute hospital serving Shetlands 22,000 residents plus the offshore oil industry and maritime population.  The hospital provides acute/elective general surgical and general medical inpatient and outpatient services in addition to consultant led A&E.  More specialist services are provided by visiting consultants and tele-medicine services.  There is no resident Radiologist but we have reporting ultrasonographers and a reporting radiographer.  We work closely with local clinicians providing the usual in/out patient, GP and acute 24-hour service cover with Radiologist support provided remotely.

Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity - Shetland is a wonderful place to live and work.  Shetland offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, great leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery, whilst still only a short flight away from the UK mainland.  To find out more about living and working in Shetland go to www.shetland.org and/or https://www.shetland.org/life
