Applications are invited for this Consultant post in the Infectious Disease in NHS Highland based within Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within NHS Highland to help develop our Infectious Diseases service and to take on this new role within the Global Health Initiative. With easy access to coast, mountains and glens, Inverness in the Scottish Highlands is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and offers an unrivalled quality of life with a huge range of leisure and sporting opportunities.
Within this role we can offer a Global Citizens contract. The job can offer 10 weeks per annum of overseas work which will be captured in your Job Plan alongside the work in NHS Highland. You will have the support of the Global Health Academy based in Edinburgh, which can identify projects for you to join overseas and can assist in travel and visa arrangements for self-directed projects.
The service has recently taken on infection beds and there is a long-term proposal for a 12 bedded infection unit within Raigmore hospital to take admissions from the north Highland health board area. This will give capacity for management of patients with highly infectious diseases as well as managing general infection patients. This is a new post to help support the staffing of this facility.
The department has a successful OPAT service which provides this service to patients in the full geographical area of north highland. More recently the service has taken on the follow-up of patients on complex oral antibiotic regimens (COPAT). There is a monthly Lyme MDT meeting to support the care of this complex patient group.
The post will involve ward rounds on the infection ward, ward referrals from other specialities, OPAT referrals and reviews. Outpatient clinic work will involve a general infection clinic and a monthly HIV clinic. There would be scope for further involvement in the blood borne virus service.
This post can be adapted to suit the individual candidate. The post can be offered with the advantage of the global citizen contract. Alternatively if you have an active research interest there is scope for core funded research sessions. There would also be scope for opportunities within medical education, involvement in the medical admissions rota and Acute Medicine.
We would be happy to receive applications from people jointly trained in infectious diseases and microbiology. Please contact us for further discussion about these opportunities.
It is essential that applicants are on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at date of interview. The hours and job plan for this post can be discussed on an individual basis.
Informal enquiries will be welcomed by Dr Wendy Beadles, Consultant Infectious Diseases on 01463 706007 or wendy.beadles2@nhs.scot
