Director of Public Health and Health Policy

NHS Lanarkshire

Grade F £92,640 - £124,518 per annum

Consultant Core Salary: £87,534 - £116,313 per annum. In addition, you will be remunerated a fee of £11,339 per annum

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual to lead the Public Health agenda within NHS Lanarkshire serving a population of approximately 661,960.  Although Lanarkshire has a reputation as being an excellent quality of place to live, work and visit, there are many areas within the region which are affected by deprivation.

The Director of Public Health and Health Policy is an Executive Director of the Board and is the chief source of public health leadership and advice to the Board and the surrounding Local Authorities.  You will have a key role to play in working with local communities, health protection, health improvement and promotions and maintaining effective health services. You will play an important role in forging partnerships with, and influencing, all local agencies to ensure the widest possible participation in health and the health care agenda.  This will include working within an integrated landscape.  You will also lead the Public Health Directorate.

You will need to be passionate about improving health and reducing health inequalities. Excellent communications skills and effective interpersonal and influencing skills are essential.

You will provide effective and visible leadership in NHS Lanarkshire as we reshape and remobilise services to respond to and recover from COVID-19. You will also have a key role in developing our refreshed Healthcare Strategy, “Our Health Together”, achieving our vision of becoming an anchor organisation and delivering our vision for a new state of the art University Hospital Monklands.

Experience of operating at a senior level within the NHS and partnership settings is essential.  You will have the ability to influence thinking both locally and nationally and be able to demonstrate a track record in addressing health inequalities.  You will also be able to evidence excellent strategic leadership, embracing a values-based approach to transformational change and service redesign through engagement with key stakeholders.

If you require any additional information or wish to discuss the role, informal enquiries are welcomed by Ms Heather Knox, Chief Executive, NHS Lanarkshire.   This should be arranged through contact, in the first instance, with Jacqueline Murdoch, PA on or alternatively by email at jacqueline.murdoch@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

If you have any queries regarding the application form or recruitment process, please contact Michelle Gormley, HR Recruitment Systems & Projects Lead, by email at michelle.gormley@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.
