We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Psychologist to work in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN), NHS Lothian. DCN is located in a new purpose-built location at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France.

The post is Agenda for Change Band 5, 37.5 hours per week and the position is fixed term for 12 months. The post holder will join a small team of Clinical Psychologists in helping to provide a service to inpatients and outpatients in the DCN Clinical Neuropsychology Service.

You will be expected to carry out clinical work (under supervision); undertake administrative tasks for the service; and contribute to ongoing research projects. To take these in turn:

Clinical work: The assessment of cognition and orientation (using standardised cognitive tests of memory, attention, executive functioning, etc, including assessment of Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA)) and mood/coping of patients who are referred by nursing, medicine or allied health professional colleagues. The service is a busy one: approximately 300 inpatients and 300 outpatients are seen annually.

Administrative tasks: Amongst other duties, you will: log new referrals onto our waiting list; liaise with our Health Records Department; arrange appointments with patients; monitor clinic availability to maximize the efficiency of the service; create neuropsychology files; oversee the collection of patient satisfaction data.

Research: We are a research active service, and you will be required to assist qualified clinical psychology staff in research duties, e.g. undertaking literature searches; setting up and maintaining research databases; assessing research participants; analysing data. ​​​​​​​

A first or upper second class honours degree in psychology is essential, ideally a degree that confers Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) of the British Psychological Society (BPS). Some experience of working in a clinical psychology or other health care setting is also essential. Experience in the administration of cognitive and neuropsychological assessments is highly desirable. You will have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills.
