A position has arisen within NHS Lanarkshire Medical Physics department for a full time Renal Section Manager. We are looking for a reliable, well organised and highly motivated individual. The post will be based at the University Hospital Monklands, but may include the need to occasionally travel to our other departments within the University Hospital Wishaw and University Hospital Hairmyres. This will be a full time permanent position working Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm with flexibility as the service requires. The post holder must be a car driver with a valid UK driving licence.
The post offers the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to develop and broaden their experience in all aspects of the service. It is expected that the post holder will participate in an on-call rota and have extensive knowledge of Renal Dialysis Machines and associated equipment. A common sense approach to work is important as well as an ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team with a positive and solution-focused attitude.
The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day management of a Medical Physics Equipment Management Section as part of the comprehensive Medical Physics service to NHS Lanarkshire. These Sections are located in Monklands, [which has two sections, Renal and General Medical Equipment], Wishaw and Hairmyres Hospitals and serve both the Acute and Primary Care Divisions. The Wishaw Section provides a contracted service to the State Hospital, Carstairs.
Medical equipment management is the servicing, repair, calibration and maintenance of a wide range of vital equipment connected to patients (for the purpose of diagnosis, therapy, or life support) which ensures that it is operating safely and effectively. This service operates to a quality management system which is registered under BS EN ISO 9001:2000
The post holder should have a Degree/HNC or equivalent in Applied Physics or Electrical/Electronic Engineering plus experience since attaining HNC standard plus a further relevant experience., experience in management working at Deputy Section Manager level or equivalent. Have specialist knowledge, acquired through further education, or, with evidence of C.P.D. activity, in maintaining and developing equipment management skills e.g. attending equipment service courses, study days over a period of six years, operate at Masters Level, be eligible for a Lanarkshire Specialist Certificate of Technical Competence, eligible for registration on the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine Register of Clinical Technologists and, for the renal section, membership of the Association of Renal Technologists, be in possession of team-working skills and the ability to motivate others, able to work on own initiative. and have time management skills. IT skills e.g. ability to manipulate complex spreadsheets and present medical equipment data to senior staff in manner that can be easily understood
Ideally the post holder will have a MSc in relevant science or technology subject, Membership of Association of Renal Technologists, experience in supervision of technical staff, experience of presentations on medical equipment technology to clinical, nursing, procurement and other technical staff, experience of planning work of Section and passing on knowledge gained by experience, knowledge of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines, knowledge of policies and practices of medical equipment Management, knowledge of methodology of capital equipment procurement and knowledge of national framework agreements
