​​​​​​​This Principal Clinical Psychology (Lead Specialist) post is with the Older Adult Psychology Service based at Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine and the multi-disciplinary Care Home Professional Support Team based at Ailsa Hospital, Ayr. The new multi-disciplinary Care Home Professional Support Team was established from the introduction of NHS-assurance responsibilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. The service consists of a range of professionals including Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Social Work.

Within this new service, you will have a leadership role in increasing access to psychologically informed care and therapies for care home residents in Ayrshire and Arran. In liaison with the Clinical Lead for the Older Adult Psychology Service, a key part of the role will be in developing, delivering and evaluating governance structures (for training, coaching, supervision and support) to ensure safe and consistent delivery of psychological care as well as staff wellbeing. Other aspects to the role will be in ensuring communication between key stakeholders, such as the Staff Wellbeing Service and from the Health and Social Care Partnerships, and the Older Adult Psychology Service. Significant strategic and/or service development experience or exposure is required and knowledge of quality improvement methodology within clinical practice is also essential.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Psychological Services comprises of approximately 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Master and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services, two Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychology Leads across the Psychological Specialties.   The service places a strong emphasis on governance and CPD; provides opportunities for further training and has a number of internal special interest and current working groups.  The service has close links with the University of Glasgow, Clinical Psychology Doctoral Training Course.

You must be a car driver, be HCPC registered as a Practitioner Clinical Psychologist and have had significant post-qualification experience.

This post is permanent and is offered full-time, but variation in these contractual hours will also be considered.
