An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Public Health Department for a Health Protection Nurse Specialist.

The postholder will provide Health Protection Nurse specialist advice on all health protection issues including communicable diseases, infection prevention control, and environmental health hazards and will take a supporting role in providing specialist advice regarding blood borne viruses. They will be integral to the efforts of the Health Protection Team whose role is to ensure the health of the population in Highland is protected and promoted. The postholder will also be critical to the NHS Highland COVID-19 response.

NHS Highland serves a total population of around 325,000. You will be based in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, renowned for its beauty and quality of life which offers a lifestyle only dreamt of in other parts of the country.

You will work in a small, friendly Health Protection Team which sits within the wider multi-disciplinary Public Health Directorate.

Duties include: taking a key supporting role in ensuring the provision of a daytime specialist health protection advisory service including receiving and responding to Covid-19, taking a key role in the public health management of individual cases and outbreaks of infection and also the management of concerns around environmental hazards, providing specialist advice and support to the local COVID-19 contact tracing function, providing specialist advice regarding blood borne viruses, participating in the provision of an infection prevention & control service to non-NHS Care Homes, including the management of healthcare associated infections and participating in the provision of support to the TB liaison Nurse.

Applicants should be on the Nursing and Midwifery Council's register and should have a minimum of five years post-registration clinical experience, some of which should ideally be in a community setting.
