Accountable to the Site Director for the strategic leadership & operational delivery of Acute Services within Medicine Services at the RIE Site, ensuring safe delivery of patient care and services in accordance within NHS Lothian agreed corporate objectives. This includes developing and adhering to the 6 Essential Actions for Unscheduled Care and then contributing to the wider NHS Lothian Unscheduled Care Acute Services. Responsible for the delivery of Unscheduled & Scheduled Care for Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery within the South East Region of Scotland and Lothian wide integrated Services for stroke across Lothian. Support the achievement of NHS Lothian targets and objectives by developing key relationships to enable collaborative working with Primary Care and Integrated Joint Boards, ensuring a cohesive approach to Unscheduled Care flow into the Acute Hospital and then appropriate and timely discharge. Contribute to the Senior Management Team on the RIE site providing leadership and visibility and supporting the planned and unplanned workflows associated with running an Acute Hospital. Acts as the deputy Site Director in all aspects of Unscheduled Care, leading discussions and decision making at director level. Unscheduled Care accounts for c 80% of site activity (120,000 presentations per year). The post holder plays a key dynamic role in leading transformational change to deliver improved quality of care, patient’s safety and carer cantered services within the RIE. The post holder will promote and deliver integration of acute services with primary care and the developing Health and Social Care Partnerships and will also carry specific system wide responsibilities as agreed with the Site Director and Chief Officer of Acute Services.
This post includes a requirement to participate in On-Call rota for RIE Site. This will require the post holder to have an operational understanding and active role on the site, making live decisions around patient flow and escalating to the Tier 2 Director On-Call if required.
