NHS HIGHLAND
RAIGMORE HOSPITAL, INVERNESS
NATIONAL TREATMENT CENTRE HIGHLAND, INVERNESS
CONSULTANTS IN TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY
£87,534 to £116,313 per annum pro rata
NHS Highland is seeking to recruit three Trauma & Orthopaedic Consultants to join and expand the department in Inverness in order to accommodate the National Treatment Centre. This post is offered on the new Consultant Contract terms and conditions of service.
The City of Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands and enjoys a unique and enviable lifestyle and environment. Raigmore Hospital is a modern District General Hospital with 500 beds and a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands.
The Scottish Government and NHS Highland are currently constructing the National Treatment Centre Highland as part of the planned national network of treatment centres which will cater for a large proportion of primary lower limb arthroplasty and other orthopaedic elective services. It is anticipated this site will be operational in October 2022.
This post will participate in the on-call rota for trauma along with provision of elective services at both the Raigmore and National Treatment Centre sites. Development of a subspecialty interest that will compliment the department will also be encouraged.
Raigmore Hospital is the principal DGH providing undergraduate teaching for the University of Aberdeen and the Centre for Health Science and clinical skills centre has an extensive up-to-date library to support this commitment. Good links exist with the Highlands and Islands Research Institute. The National Treatment Centre is being built on the Inverness Campus and fostering links with this institution will be encouraged.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery currently comprises 14 Consultants. The provision of the service to a large geographical area requires a particularly flexible and imaginative approach by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated Consultants. The Department has Speciality Registrars rotating from both Aberdeen and Dundee rotations and there are regular attachments of Medical Students from Aberdeen University and ScotGEM programmes. The provision of an additional three Consultants is to support an increase in capacity associated with the National Treatment Centre.
Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of the anticipated award of a CCT at the time of interview for the post.
Informal enquiries will be welcomed by: Mr Christian Michels, Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery 01463 705383 or christian.michels@nhs.scot
