Applications are invited from doctors, who have completed the UK Foundation Programme, for the position of Clinical Fellow within the Emergency Departments of University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr in NHS Ayrshire and Arran. There are 3 x 8 month posts available commencing 1 December 2021.

The CF posts will afford successful applicants an excellent opportunity to gain experience in Emergency Medicine prior to committing to a future Core or Specialty training programme.

University Hospital Crosshouse was ranked top in the UK and University Hospital Ayr was ranked 5th in the UK for trainee satisfaction in the GMC National Training survey (2019).  At present University Hospital Crosshouse is the only ED in Scotland with Good Practice Recognition from NHS Education for Scotland Deanery Quality Review Panel. In recent years many of our fellows have had success in applying for entry into specialty training.

In combination with the clinical component, each CF will be assigned (under discussion) to an area of personal and professional developmental interest. You will receive dedicated development time of up to 8 hours per week to undertake these activities. These activities will be supported through clinical supervision and successful candidates will receive up to £1250 pa pro rata to support agreed development activities in their chosen area of interest.

The CFs will work under supervision with local clinical teams to develop skills, and will also provide out of hours activity on the junior ED Team rota.

The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 8 months commencing 1 December 2021.  A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments, and will be based on a salary range of £33,884 - £44,828. The posts are not recognised for training.   Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to make contact with Dr Jamie Adams, Clinical Director Emergency Medicine, NHS Ayrshire & Arran (Tel: 01563 826703) or Dr Alan Krichell, Clinical Lead Emergency Medicine, University Hospital Ayr (01292 614 578) or Dr Allan Burt, Consultant Emergency Medicine, University Hospital Crosshouse (allan.burt@aapct.scot.nhs.uk).
