An opportunity is available for a Locum Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in colorectal surgery to join the General Surgery Department at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, located in the south of Scotland for a period of 12 months from April 2022.
The Department of Surgery provides a comprehensive elective and emergency general surgical service, with day case/endoscopy/out-patient services also provided at the Galloway Community Hospital in Stranraer. The colorectal service deals with an average of 130 new cases a year.
As well as sub specialist colorectal skills, as a Consultant in this department you must have strong general surgery skills to enable you to participate in the 1:8 emergency on call rota. Experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery is highly desirable.

The location is really outstandingly beautiful, with the landscape as a key feature in the design of the hospital building. Dumfries is a great place to relocate to, it is well located for access to Scottish cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh, but also just a short drive from Carlisle in the north of England.
The region offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. There is a wide range of activities on offer, with watersports, fishing, birdwatching, golf, mountain-biking or cycling along the network of rural roads and much more. House prices are low, schools are good and you are within 2 hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lake District and Newcastle.
