NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde provides a wide range of Acute hospital services across a family hospitals located in across Glasgow and Clyde areas. We are the main provider of NHS hospital care to approximately 1.15 m people in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.
We are seeking to recruit additional Health Care Support Workers to help provide support to our amazing Nursing and Midwifery teams especially as we approach the winter months. Opportunities are available across most of our hospitals sites in a variety of wards and Nursing specialties. We are especially keen to hear from candidates interested in working in our Care of the Elderly Wards.
Most of our hospitals are within easy reach of your local community where ever you are based around the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area with good public transport links.
As a Health Care Support Worker (sometimes referred to as Nursing Assistant) you are a hugely valuable support to our Nursing and Midwifery teams providing care and treatment to our patients. Everyday you’ll be working in close contact with patients carrying out a wide range of tasks assisting patients with what they need to make them as comfortable as possible and at the same time you’ll have a key role also supporting patient’s family members.
As part of a multidisciplinary team of Nurses /Midwives, Doctors, Allied Health Professionals and Facilities support staff you’ll find that no two shifts are ever the same, there is always a lot to do and its hard work but one things for sure you’ll go home every day knowing what you have done really mattered and made a real difference helping people.
As most of our clinical services operate across 24 hours 365 days of the year you’ll need to be able to work shifts as part of a rota system. A typical working week is 37.5 hours for full time posts (pro rata for part time). Working 12 hour shifts can be challenging as one day you are on days starting early and then you can be on nights the next day. Your roster will also include working some weekends and public holidays.
What experience do you need?
- You don’t necessarily need qualifications to become a Health Care Support Worker what’s really important is that you’re kind, compassionate and thoughtful towards patients, families and colleagues. We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn and who will be positive team members.
- You must be able to work as part of a team to deliver an excellent service to the people we support and be flexible in your approach to work
- NHS Health Care Support Worker posts offer a perfect opportunity for people whose work, education or life experience has equipped them with excellent people-skills and who can also demonstrate good organisational skills and are able to use their initiative when caring for our patients.
- Although previous experience of working within a care setting with vulnerable service users is desirable it’s not essential as we recruit on the basis of your character and care values. We will train successful candidates in all of the important things you need to know about when working in a hospital environment (infection control, moving and handling, falls prevention, confidentiality etc.), and we will support your development during your induction period.
