There is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacist to work in a highly integrated role within rheumatology in NHS Lothian. This is a well-established post that supports delivery of care to a range of patients in the outpatient rheumatology setting. The role is varied and well supported within the clinical team, with pharmacists playing a leading role in weekly multidisciplinary meetings and scope to include pharmacist-led clinics. You will ensure the delivery of a homecare medicines service to this group of patients and contribute to medicines management and quality improvement in rheumatology.
The post holder will be expected to provide support and deputise for the lead pharmacists and undertake supervision of less experienced pharmacists and students. Ideally candidates will have experience of influencing prescribing within a community, primary or secondary care environment using their knowledge and skills to promote optimal outcomes from medicines.
This would be a great job for an experienced band 6 pharmacist or a current band 7 looking to experience a new specialty. Although well established, the role is continually evolving as Rheumatology is a specialty that is going through a very exciting period of progress, with lots of new drug developments in the past decade. There is support to attend annual, national conferences and develop knowledge in this specialist area. Although desired, independent prescribing is not essential for this role and training would be supported for the successful applicant.
It is an exciting time to get involved in Rheumatology, particularly this rewarding and flexible job – in a fast-paced but fun department!
Candidates must have a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent; be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and have completed the Pharmacy Foundation Training or equivalent with demonstrable clinical pharmacy experience. A diploma / MSc in clinical pharmacy or Independent Prescribing qualification is desirable.
