A unique and challenging opportunity has arisen to join the National Procurement pharmacy team to lead and support projects related to the procurement and commissioning arrangements of medicines and related services which align with the delivery of future medicines strategy in NHS Scotland.

The Pharmacy Programme manager will provide wide strategic and commercial input to the effective and efficient purchasing of medicines by NHS Scotland, including opportunity identification, contract development, commercial negotiation, supply chain development and stock management programmes.

A key part of the role will be horizon scanning of new procurement opportunities for medicines and related services and to support the arrangements for market access for medicines including biosimilars.

 Working with a broad range of stakeholders including health boards and clinical networks, the post-holder will undertake detailed work to identify opportunities and, in partnership with clinically trained colleagues and NHS stakeholders, lead the development of strategies to ensure the NHS maximises the benefits these opportunities offer. The post also involves close engagement with a broad supplier base which includes medicine manufacturers and distributors, wholesalers, homecare & ancillary providers.

The postholder will also contribute to the development and day to day management of the pharmacy team within National Procurement to ensure continued delivery of customer-oriented best value contracts for the NHS in Scotland.

Educated to Degree level or equivalent you will have strong commercial and clinical background with an in-depth knowledge of the UK pharmaceutical market and a developed understanding of medicines use.  The post-holder should be a strategic thinker and problem solver, have excellent influencing skills and attention to detail, effective team and multidisciplinary working skills and practical experience of facilitating change.
