NHS Fife’s mental health services ‘Unscheduled Care Assessment Team’ (UCAT) is innovating to improve the care and treatment of people who present to the Accident and Emergency Department at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. It is with great pleasure that we are able to advertise these innovative and exciting new posts.
We are seeking experienced and motivated Mental Health Nurses for the newly developed Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role, to deliver a dynamic mental health assessment service to people presenting for mental health assessment at the Emergency Department / Emergency Medical Observation Unit at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, and supporting delivery of the UCAT service based at Whyteman’s Brae as required.
You will receive a comprehensive induction training programme and supervision package to support your clinical and professional development.
As a Registered Mental Health Nurse with substantial post registration experience, you will be educated or be prepared to work towards an appropriate Masters level qualification in Advanced Nursing Practice which enables competence in:
Clinical assessment and decision-making
Non-medical prescribing- V300
Research
Advanced Mental Health Assessment
In return, we are fully committed to supporting you to progress your Continuous Professional Development towards a Pg Dip Advanced Practice with orientation, access to Personal and Professional Development Planning, clinical supervision, coaching and mentorship.
This exciting new service will be involved with evaluation of its efficacy for which the post holder will be actively involved.
The post holder will have experience of team working, problem solving, flexibility, high-level communication skills, continuing professional development and change management.
You will be required to work flexibly over a 24 hour period in order to ensure a 24/7 service 365 days per year.

Annex 21 Pay arrangements apply
Trainee ANP Candidates will be placed on Band 7 Annex 21 (please see attached guidance on AfC Annex 21) and will be subject to completion of an agreed competency framework. Training will be completed over a maximum period of 21 months from date of appointment.
You will also have experience supporting the professional development of others including teaching, clinical supervision and the application of research and audit underpinned by a strong knowledge of current issues. Excellent professional leadership, team working, advanced clinical assessment and decision making skills are all key to this role. You will be flexible to the needs of the role and service and will support the Team Leader and Lead Nurse in developing the service to assure safe, patient centered and effective care delivery applying the 4 pillars of practice at an advanced level.
Trainees are paid a percentage of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate which is dependent on the duration of the training period (see Terms and Conditions).
