This is an exciting opportunity to join the NSS Executive Management Team and to lead the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) Strategic Business Unit to “meet the transfusion needs of patients in Scotland”. As a Director of NSS, the post will be responsible for contributing to and influencing the strategic direction of the organisation and participating in corporate governance and the management of NSS.  The postholder will also provide strategic direction and leadership to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion service, which is the specialist provider of transfusion medicine for Scotland.
This includes responsibility and accountability for research, development and innovation to ensure a sustainable, safe supply of blood components, tissues and cells.  As well as ensuring the collection, manufacture and supply of high quality blood components, tissues and cells, and for the provision of some highly specialised clinical services to meet the emergency and elective needs of Patients in Scotland (within statutory and regulatory requirements; including compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (2005) as amended.
This is a very challenging but highly rewarding position which will require the successful candidate to have outstanding strategy, leadership and influencing skills which will enable them to fully contribute to both the strategic direction of NSS but also to influence and contribute to the development of blood transfusion, tissues & cells policy and strategy for Scotland and UK.  A passion for team working, delivering results and working in partnership with a range of stakeholders, including Trade Union colleagues are all critical to success in this role.
This post requires an inspirational leader with the drive, understanding, vision, experience and political awareness necessary to provide clear and dynamic leadership in the strategic development of all aspects of a unified health system.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Degree level in a relevant discipline or a post-graduate qualification would be desireable or equivalent experience
Evidence of continuing professional/personal development, including management and leadership development
Extensive leadership ability at senior/executive level in a multidisciplinary environment over a significant number of years. This should include experience working in an organisation of considerable scale and complexity
Experience or working at a senior level in the health sector is desirable
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
