Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.
Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people, and with an annual budget of around £60 million, Public Health Scotland will provide authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It will lead the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and will contribute to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Services Officer to join our Knowledge and Research Hub in Public Health Scotland, Scotland’s lead national agency for improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of all of Scotland’s people.
You will contribute to the development and implementation of a new Research Office in Public Health Scotland. The Research Office will provide oversight of research activity, including research commissioning, research governance and ethics.
You will ideally have a postgraduate qualification in public health, research management and administration or equivalent, or relevant experience gained from working within a Research Management Office. You will have a sound understanding of research governance, and ethics, as well as relevant experience, or knowledge of, both conducting and commissioning research.
You will also have the ability to advise on the design, conduct and critique of high quality research within organisational policy or practice context.
You will be working as part of a new research services team within the Knowledge and Research Hub and have excellent communication skills, project management skills, digital and IT skills.
We are looking for someone with a positive, proactive, flexible approach, with good attention to detail, who will thrive as part of a busy team. The post-holder may be based in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices, but will be working from home initially.

Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
During times of public health emergency, or other urgent business need you may be required on a temporary basis to work your normal contracted working hours over 7 days including weekends, in order to meet the needs of the service
