Job Advert

AIR AMBULANCE PARAMEDICS & TEAM LEADER PARAMEDICS
(Secondments)
Based at ABERDEEN AIRPORT, SCOTLAND'S CHARITY AIR AMBULANCE (SCAA)

The more remote and rural areas of Scotland boast some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world but they also present a challenge to our national ambulance service in ensuring delivery of equity of care in the pre-hospital environment. The Scottish Ambulance Service, Air Ambulance Division, is an essential component of our service, providing an invaluable lifeline to our remote and rural communities as well as supporting our national trauma network.

We are delighted to be in a position to offer opportunities to join our team, based at Aberdeen Airport. The successful candidates will form part of the team providing clinical cover for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA).

As part of the role, you will also be dual trained and gain experience of working on our Beechcraft King Air fixed wing aircraft, our road based rapid response vehicle and will have an invaluable opportunity to train with and work alongside our consultant led ScotSTAR Critical Care and Trauma team, responding to incidents alongside and as an invaluable member of the team as required.

The SCAA aircraft will operate on day shift basis (12 hours per day), 7 days per week providing an essential additional resource, which ultimately saves lives and improves the quality of life for the sick and injured throughout Scotland.

It is essential that candidates are UK state registered paramedics who can evidence a high level of clinical experience and knowledge with a particular focus on trauma/critical care and be able to demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Short listed applicants will be required to undertake a physical assessment that tests strength and endurance and a basic swimming assessment. More detail can be provided on shortlisting. Please note that due to operational limitations, applications cannot be considered from persons over 90kg in weight. There is also a height limitation of 1.8m for personnel operating within the aircraft due to the restricted headroom.

Applicants should also be aware that these posts do not qualify for excess travel time payments, mileage or relocation expenses.  In addition, any move into these positions is subject to satisfactory membership the PVG Scheme through Disclosure Scotland.
