Band 8A Laboratory Manager

Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics

37.5 hours, Permanent

This is a full time position based within the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory, located in purpose built laboratory accommodation at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow and is within the Diagnostics Directorate of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

Health Board.

The H&I Laboratory provides an H&I service to support the following clinical programmes:

Serving the West of Scotland:

• Adult renal transplantation

• Disease association

Serving all of Scotland:

• Paediatric and adult haematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation

• Paediatric renal transplantation

• Adult cardiac transplantation

The position of Laboratory Manager, requires a specialist Healthcare Scientist in H&I who will be responsible for the day-to-day running of this busy laboratory ensuring the necessary testing kits and equipment are fit for purpose. The Laboratory Manager will have responsibility for the personnel management of staff and will oversee usage of the H&I budget. The Laboratory Manager will be active in the analyses and interpretation of test results and production of H&I reports and will liaise with clinical colleagues. The appointee may also participate in the out-of-hours on-call service for

deceased donor organ transplantation.

Applicants must have substantial experience in the field of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics including management experience and must be HCPC registered. They should possess a Biological Science degree and relevant postgraduate qualification including the BSHI Diploma (or equivalent

qualification).
