An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, to join the Microbiology Department, University Hospital Crosshouse.

The Microbiology department is a UKAS accredited laboratory, which provides a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary Microbiology service to all hospitals, clinics, health centres and GP’s within NHS Ayrshire and Arran. The population served is approximately 380,000 and we currently perform over 350,000 investigations per year.

You must be HCPC registered and have completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology (or equivalent experience). You will also have recent or current experience of working in a Microbiology clinical laboratory setting at Band 6 grade. Consideration will also be given to newly graduated applicants who are HCPC registered (such applicants would work at Registered BMS Band 5 level and progress to Band 6 on successful completion of the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology).

Rotation through all sections of the laboratory will be required (CL3, Blood Cultures, General bench, Enteric, Mycology, Urines, Serology/Virology and Molecular).

After a short period of familiarisation, the post-holder will be required to work within the department’s seven day service and the out of hours service.

Hours: 37.5 on average per week working a contractual shift system and on-call service covering the 24hour period 7 days per week.  
Participation in the Public Holiday rosters is required.
