The Scottish Neuroprogressive and Dementia Clinical Research Network is an established organisation whose primary aim is to facilitate the conduct of randomised trials and other well designed studies in dementia and other neuroprorogressive diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and others in Scotland including those of prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Dr Tom Russ, Consultant Psychiatrist & Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, based in Lothian is Network Champion, with Emma Law as the Network Manager, based in NHS Tayside.
This is a post established within the network and will enable some large studies to be delivered. The post holder will be responsible for management of research staff, overview of all the studies on the portfolio in NHS Grampian and recruiting people with dementia and related cognitive disorders and their carers plus other neuroprogressive diseases into studies. This includes the completion of clinical assessment scales not readily available for health records. You will be responsible for co-ordinating a portfolio of clinical studies, primarily in Grampian but occasionally from other areas within neighbouring Health Boards. Very occasionally you may be required to work at some distance from Grampian, if the demands of a particular study require this. You will be involved with the assessment and management of the research pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies under the auspices of the network. You will be required to liaise with clinical teams dealing with the clinical care of the patient and carer concerned.
The successful applicant will work closely with the network manager as part of a team of research staff across Scotland. A key part of the role will be the management of staff and overview of studies in Grampian. The postholder will be responsbile for the co-ordination of trials and liaison with trial management units.
