Job Advert

Consultant - Substance Misuse Psychiatry

No 11, Dalkeith, Midlothian

Applications are welcome for the above Permanent, full time (40 hours per week) post based at No. 11, Midlothian Health & Social Care Partnership.

The post contributes a key element of the substance misuse service offered to the citizens of Midlothian providing additional expect psychiatric and medical consultation to the existing Midlothian Substance Misuse Service and Primary Care colleagues.

Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) was the first in Scotland to develop a Recovery Hub subsequently named No.11, integrating all Community Substance use and Mental Health staff, both NHS and local authority are co-located with Justice Social Work and Voluntary Sector partners

The service has benefitted from recent investment through the ongoing Scottish Government drug and alcohol strategy: Our strategy is to address the harms of alcohol and drugs in Scotland by delivering service response to the New Medication Assisted Treatment Standards.

This has resulted in the expansion of the specialist secondary care service to develop an assertive outreach approach, and improve links to Primary Care practices (providing Consultant Psychiatry, Community Psychiatric Nurse and Peer Worker support to identified practices).  The integration Model within No 11, has allowed for cohesive, integrated partnership and collaborative approach across Mental Health, Substance Use and Justice, enabling users of No 11 services to receive the right care and treatment at the right time. This has reduced health inequalities by providing trauma informed person centred care, improving the quality of life of people who use our services.

This post holder will act as lead clinician for treating substance use in Midlothian and will inform the shape and delivery of forward facing services, focused on building resilience, supporting rehabilitation and enabling recovery.  It is a key expectation that patients will be actively recruited and retained into treatment services.  Alongside this more patients will be supported by specialist input whilst appropriately being treated within the Primary Care setting, thereby further increasing the flexibility and responsiveness of the secondary care service.
