We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Qualified Dental Nurses to join our team we have 1 Full time opportunity and 1 Part time opportunity the part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

The Extended Duties Dental Nurse will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide key oral health messages and a defined clinical preventive procedure (fluoride varnish application) to young children, elderly and special care patients. This will be untaken in nursery and school environments, care homes primarily but may also include settings within the Public Dental Service.


Additional Information Specific to the Role


The post holder should be currently registered with the General Dental Council and hold the additional Childsmile qualification. The post holder will provide defined clinical preventive procedure (fluoride varnish application) to nursery and school children and deliver oral health promotion messages to parents, carers and children in accordance with the Childsmile Care Manual. They will work in designated nursery and primary schools within Lanarkshire. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to use data base systems specific to Childsmile (ie – H.I.C system) within the role.


​​​​​​​KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB


Hold a Nationally recognised Dental Nurse Qualification.

Be on the GDC’s register for Dental Nurses

Have a level of specialist theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will enable them to work  with a variety of clinicians and respond to any situation that develops, including emergencies

Experience working in a dental surgery. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment and experience of working as a dental nurse in more than one branch of dentistry would be advantageous

Have experience of working with a variety of clinicians in a variety of settings and  be able to confidently assist the dentist to  provide a full range of dental treatment

The postholder’s experience will ensure they have a level of understanding of and can anticipate the support the dentist and the patient needs so that treatment can be provided in a safe, economical, efficient and effective manner.

Commitment to continuing Professional Development

Experience in clinical governance including audit

The ability to work with people and have a range of patient management skills and good interpersonal skills

Able to communicate well at all levels – good reporting skills verbal and written

A flexible and adaptable approach to work

Abel to demonstrate self motivation , use initiative and accept responsibility

Good organizational and administrative skills.

The ability to take direction and work as part of a team through procedures and protocols to meet agreed targets.

The ability, when necessary, to use initiative, intuition and know how in imaginative and creative ways to overcome problems and stimulate change.

To be able to cope confidentially with a designated work remit, but yet remain a part of the wider dental team in Lanarkshire.

IT skills , be able to use a computer and have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of the Data Protection act

Knowledge of dental procedures, new techniques and up to date knowledge about materials.

Knowledge of NHS Lanarkshire Policies and administrative procedures

P.D.P.

Awareness of patient confidentiality, child protection issues, the Disability Discrimination Act and the Adults with Incapacity Act

Manual handling skills

Must have a valid full driving licence and access to a car

CPR skills
