Job Advert

This is a replacement appointment for retirement of one of the lead surgeons running the Burns Units at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) and Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) Glasgow. Other key specialist interests of this post are Limb reconstruction and Colorectal/Perineal reconstruction

This replacement appointment coincides with the opening of the Scottish National Burns Hub (Centre) in Glasgow, with the appointment of two additional new consultants with an interest in Burn Injury, taking the number of specialist Burns/Plastic surgeons in the Unit to five, from the present three consultants.

The appointee is expected to have a main special interest in Burn Surgery and also, ideally, an interest in Limb Reconstruction after trauma and cancer treatment. Willingness to develop an interest in Colorectal/Perineal reconstruction would also be desirable.

The Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit currently has 20 full time Consultants.  The Service provides the entire spectrum of plastic and reconstructive subspecialty services excluding craniofacial surgery and has a large workload of general plastic surgery.  This Unit is internationally recognised and runs a variety of teaching courses every year.

Applicants must have full GMC Registration and a licence to practise and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.  Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

This job plan is negotiable and will be agreed between the successful applicant and the Clinical Director.  NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde initially allocates all full time consultants 10 PAs made up of 9 PAs in Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and one core Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) for CPD, audit, clinical governance, appraisal, revalidation, job planning and management meetings.  The precise allocation of SPA time and associate objectives will be agreed with the successful applicant and will be reviewed by job planning process.
