Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

The purpose of the role is the delivery of expert moving and handling advice, which allows NHS Lanarkshire to deliver safe quality healthcare within the financial constraints of the service. Development, implementation and maintenance of measures to achieve the objectives of NHS Lanarkshire’s Health and Safety Strategy in general, and the Moving and Handling Policy in particular.

Lead the provision and effectiveness of specialist moving and handling support by a combination of influence on standards and direction of devolved specialist services.

Provide NHS Lanarkshire with high calibre expert advice, guidance and policy infrastructure relative to moving and handling which facilitates its ability to respond and manage all related risks appropriately.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Professional Clinical Qualification and experience e.g. Registered Nurse, Chartered Physiotherapist, State Registered Occupational Therapist
  • Neuromuscular Approach to Efficient Handling and Moving certificate to advanced level or equivalent
  • Recognised Training certificate
  • Sound working knowledge of Manual Handling and relevant Health & Safety legislation
  • Requirement to demonstrate critical analysis and decision making skills
  • Evidence of management skills
  • Commitment to and evidence of ongoing /professional development as identified by the PDP
  • Evidence of team working skills
  • Knowledge of all relevant national and local policies, legislation and procedures etc.
  • Information technology skills
  • Additional extension of skills as deemed essential for clinical practice
  • The post is not supported by clerical assistance and therefor the post holder has to carry out all administrative duties, e.g. filing, course administration, preparation of reports
  • Exemplary handling skills and good training and communication skills

Analytical and Judgemental Skills

  • Judgements involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options
    Resolving organisational issues in relation to interpretation and compliance with relevant legislation

Planning and Organisational Skills

  • Formulating long term, strategic plans, which may involve uncertainty and which will impact across the whole organisation
  • Planning, organising NHSL wide manual handling strategy, policy and service
  • Planning organising systems of risk assessment that have an impact on admissions discharges from hospitals
  • Development of systems for hoist maintenance and repair
