An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic nurses to join the established and progressive nursing teams within Glasgow Royal Infirmary, voted the best hospital in Scotland and 1 of the 200 best facilities within the world. Approximately 350 patients per day pass through the A& E department incorporating diverse attendances/admissions from trauma to specialist support of critical care, cardiac, medical, surgical, orthopaedic, gynaecology, urology, burns/plastics and paediatric patients. North Glasgow Hospitals supply University training for Nursing, Medicine and Dentistry. It provides regional services for Burns/ plastics; Upper GI; Certain medical specialities and surgical procedures.
Trained Nursing posts include flexible, fixed term to permanent posts available - from 15 hours to 37.5 hours. All applicants are invited to use free onsite parking
Nursing is a strong visible directive in assuring care and setting standards with the patient at the centre of their care pathway. Nurses are invited who wish to develop and work within a forward thinking nursing environment. Role models within GG&C North include Advanced Nurse Practitioners within all fields to a clinical Dr of Nursing. All nurses are supported by visible and clinical senior nursing teams including Lead Nurses and Senior Charge Nurses.
Nursing development is encouraged and supported by the Nursing team and Practice educators. Availability to study SQA modules up to level 9 as well as funding exists towards University courses, conferences and personal development based learning. Areas that are recruiting are:
- General medicine
These include multiple GI, rheumatology and a number of respiratory wards. The close working of medicine allows staff opportunity to develop skills within the medical day unit and across wards to develop skill sets putting nurse development as key to the service. Medical receiving areas include a short stay ward with head injury patients. These patients are from emergency and GP pathways. Within their initial admission you will gain an essential assessment skill set including accurate NEWS scoring, and will learn to be proficient in vene-puncture and cannulation skills.
- Care of older people services
Including Nurse Assessment associated with A&E frailty and close links with rehabilitation services and family networks.
3. Orthopaedics
Glasgow Royal Infirmary has been presented with a national award in recognition of its excellence in the care of patients who experience a hip fracture. The Golden Hip Award is given to the Scottish hospital that meets the highest overall performance measures against a set of standards for hip fracture patients over the course of a year.
General information
As part of the multidisciplinary team you will have responsibility for the assessment, implementation and evaluation of care needs with consideration to lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
The ability to work on your own initiative but also as part of an integrated team is required. You are required to demonstrate flexibility by working within a service.
As part of this team your continuing development is forefront with access to Lead Nurses, Specialist Nurses and Advanced Nurse Practitioners to further your education and if required supported with vocational modules via S.V.Q scheme.
Shifts are 11.5 hours; some areas accommodate twilight shifts, day shifts or night shifts as well as patterns rotation between day and night.
