Health Protection Nurse

Fixed term until end of September 2022

 37.5 hours per week

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed considerable pressures on many services including that of NHS Board Health Protection Teams. In addition to the increased demands of the overarching COVID-19 outbreak response, there is a need for additional specialist health protection capacity to support the implementation of the contact tracing function as part of Scottish Government’s ‘Test and Protect’ strategy.

An exciting opportunity has therefore arisen for six highly motivated, enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced registered nurses to join the Health Protection Team in NHS Borders.  Applicants should have excellent organisational and communication skills.  The delivery of holistic, person-centred care is paramount. Your ability to problem-solve and think on your feet is vital. Experience is required of managing your clinical workload, evidence of leadership skills and evidence of an appetite for lifelong learning and a focus in continuous quality improvement.

Your main focus will be within our NHS Borders Tracing Team (part of the national Covid-19 Test and Protect function), however as a core member of the Health Protection Team successful applicants will also work more broadly to provide specialist advice and guidance on the prevention and control of communicable diseases and other infections, environmental public health, water safety and related topics. The post holders will also provide advice to patients, NHS Borders hospital and community based staff, private and local authority run care homes and nurseries, schools, the general public and others.

The NHS Borders Tracing Team runs from 0800 to 2000 and is a seven day service. Shifts are from morning to afternoon or afternoon to evening. Applicants should expect to work a mixture of week and weekend days on a rota system. In line with Covid-19 guidance the NHS Borders Tracing Team is mostly based upon at home working.

Informal enquires are welcomed by Cathy Rowland Service Manager Contact Tracing  or Mr Chris Allan,  Consultant Public Health Medicine on 01896 825560
