Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Breast Radiologist, based Ayrshire Central Hospital, Ayr with sessions in University Hospital Crosshouse. 

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is part of the West of Scotland Breast Screening Programme co-located and combined with symptomatic breast imaging services for Ayrshire and Arran and NHS Dumfries and Galloway. We are seeking a candidate for Breast Radiology to work within a cohesive and supportive Breast multi-disciplinary team and to provide a quality service in both symptomatic and screening settings.  

This is a full-time post, however, anyone wishing to work less-than-full-time will be considered and sessions in general radiology could also be considered. 

The post is available with illustrative job plans of 10 programmed activities: The job plan may be adapted by agreement with possibility of job sharing or part-time working, to suit the applicant’s needs.

NHSAA Breast Unit is well-equipped with all the latest breast imaging technologies, including digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), ultrasound shear-wave elastography (SWE), Large Volume biopsy and Breast MRI. 

We benefit from excellent relationships with breast surgeons, pathologists, pathologists, and specialist nurses, who all contribute towards forming a strong multidisciplinary team working approach.  We have advanced practitioners and consultant Radiographers involved in film-reading, stereotactic procedures, ultrasound and biopsies.

NHSAA is located within Scotland, with easy access to major cities including Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT or already in possession of CESR (CP) at the time of interview for the post.

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR/CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
