​​​​​​​Tissue Viability Nurse, Band 6, Full time, 12 month fixed term post

An exciting 12 month fixed term opportunity to join the growing and forward thinking Tissue Viability Service as a Band 6 Tissue Viability Nurse supporting care homes in East Lothian and East Edinburgh. 

NHS Lothian Tissue Viability Service (TVS) encompasses Acute, Primary and Community care. The geographic areas include Edinburgh, East, Mid and West Lothian and has a population of 850,000. Regular meetings support a whole service approach for the TVS.

The post holder will support the delivery of the Lothian TVS education strategy with a strong focus on supporting Tissue Viability for older people living in Care Homes.

Base: East Lothian Community Hospital Supporting care homes in East Edinburgh and East Lothian.  A requirement to support multi care settings across Lothian when required.

Key Requirements

Qualifications and Training

Essential: Registered Nurse (Adult), educated to Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (e.g. SCQF Level 9) with evidence of Tissue Viability and Wound Management experience/skills, Confident IT skills

Desirable: Post-registration qualification in TV or Wound Management related subject, Trak trained.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential: Portfolio of TV related experience, experience of directing own workload and managing patient caseload, knowledge of national agenda for TV, Quality Improvement/ Pressure Ulcer prevention work

Desirable: Experience of community and acute working,

Skills and abilities

Essential: Ability to communicate with all levels of staff across multiple disciplines, Skills and ability to identify, support and deliver education to staff at all levels on TV topics

Desirable: Evidence of training in presentation skills

Specific job requirements:

Essential: Competent in leg ulcer assessment and management including Doppler ABPI, compression therapy and able to supervise staff.  Car driver with valid driving license (multi-site & community working)

Desirable: Competent in assessment and application for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, Larvae/maggot therapy and Sharp debridement
