NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of c900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic NMC registered leader who shares our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the communities within Edinburgh and the Lothians.  You will be an exceptional individual with vision and drive, passion and intellect as well as a broad range of strategic and professional skills.  We want a senior leader who can inspire, motivate, influence both internally and externally, and communicate effectively to all types of audience with a track record of building high performing teams and bringing about clinical change in a complex healthcare system.

As the executive lead director for Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP), this is a pivotal role working closely with the Chief Executive and as a full member of the Board, where you will shape and lead the patient experience and feedback agenda; deliver NMAHP strategy and policies; lead the NMAHP workforce development agenda and be an exemplar role model to the c18,000 NMAHP workforce across NHS Lothian.  As a key member of the Corporate Management Team you will be expected to contribute beyond your defined portfolio.

You will have a strong focus on improving patient experience, pushing the boundaries in pursuit of new capabilities and technologies, combined with an absolute commitment to safe, high quality care.  Credible candidates will have a strong track record of senior leadership positions at Board level in a large complex healthcare system.

You will be a resilient and inspirational leader with integrity at your core and be able to create a clear sense of purpose and be inclusive of stakeholders.  This post presents an exciting opportunity to influence and shape the provision of health services in Lothian within an integrated landscape working with Integration Joint Board colleagues and other partners.  You will have the ability to influence thinking locally, regionally and nationally.

Candidates must hold current registration as a Nurse/Midwife with the NMC and be educated to master’s degree level with evidence of post graduate study (or equivalent) with demonstrable senior/board level management experience within a large complex healthcare organisation system.

 To take on this challenge, you must have a proven track record of strategic and operational clinical management, a commitment to working collaboratively with our stakeholders and with the Executive Leadership team to continue to develop our services for the population of Lothian and beyond.
