The remit of GOS team within Primary and Urgent Care Services is to manage the arrangements which the NHS Board is required to make with Ophthalmic practitioners for the provision of general ophthalmic services in accordance with The National Health Services (General Ophthalmic Services) (Scotland) Regulations 2009. Within the Optometry team our Optometric Advisors fulfil performance and pastoral role along with a development role and a professional advice role to practitioners, offering support, guidance and advice on all primary care optometry practice matters.

We now have an opportunity for suitably experienced and qualified Community Optometrists to join our Community Optometry OA team working on a sessional basis, for 1 sessions per week plus ad hoc sessions as required.   The main focus of this role is to provide governance support to the primary care optometry management team.  In addition, contribute to and promote the improvement in quality of care throughout community optometry practice, to act in a supportive and advisory capacity (including professional advice and support) to practitioners, and to advise the Primary Care Management Team, the NHS Board and East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership on all matters relating to NHS General Ophthalmic Services and to work in close liaison with other professional staff.

Areas of work available are: 
Redirection, Inspection and Listing – 7.5 hours per week
Performance and Governance – 3.5 hours per week
Community Optometry Development – 3.5 hours per week
