Consultant Surgeon (Upper GI and General Surgery)
£87,534 to £116,313 per annum pro rata
10 PAs
Applications are invited for a Consultant General Surgeon based in Raigmore. The successful applicant will have a broad experience of general and gastrointestinal surgery with a subspecialty interest in upper GI surgery. This will be on a full time basis of 10PAs, with 2 EPAs available and will be expected to participate in the on-call rota on a 1:11 basis.
The Department of General Surgery comprises of 12 consultant general surgeons providing benign and resectional surgery for Oesophago-gastric, HPB and Colorectal disease. This is an additional post to further expand the Upper GI team which will include a focus on helping to deliver our diagnostic targets for cancer and supporting our remobilisation plan for elective surgery. The post-holder would be expected to be able to have skills in elective and emergency general and Upper GI surgery, including JAG accreditation for endoscopy.
The General Surgical Service in Raigmore is supported by new and excellent ITU/HDU facilities; a radiology department with modern cross sectional imaging with two CT scanners and two MRI scanners; endoscopy unit and theatres with full range of laparoscopic equipment. Raigmore Hospital is one of the five cancer centres in Scotland. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy and neo-adjuvant chemoradiation are administered on site. We are a highly active research unit; projects include biomarker discovery, telemedicine apps, clinical trials, simulation in training, clinical education and we recruit to a high proportion of current colorectal clinical trials. The wider Department includes Vascular, Breast and Urology teams, and there are visiting paediatric, plastic and neurosurgical consultant staff.
