Applications are invited for this post of Consultant Neonatologist within Ayrshire and Arran. We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic neonatal paediatrician for a 10 session post (including 1 SPA) to support consultant led services within Neonatology for a period of 3 months in the first instance. This post will contribute to the neonatal consultant on-call rota.
Neonatal and Acute Paediatric Services are on one site at University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock. Ayrshire Maternity Unit (AMU) was opened as a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility in 2006. We have two consultant obstetricians with a sub specialist interest in fetal medicine. The Neonatal Unit has historically provided level 3 intensive care and the consultant rota is separate from the General Paediatric Service. More recently the neonatal unit has moved to a level 2 facility with close links to level 3 services in the west of Scotland. The successful applicant will be part of a team of five neonatologists providing quality care for the infants of Ayrshire and Arran. They will work in partnership, linking with other neonatologists across the West of Scotland through the Neonatal Managed Clinic Network.
Applicants will be appropriately experienced and hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice. Inclusion on the Specialist Register is essential. MRCPCH or equivalent is essential.
The Terms and Conditions of service, are those determined by the Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The post is offered on a 10 Programmed Activity basis which includes 1 SPA. Opportunities may exist for Extra Programmed Activities subject to service requirements.
The on call commitment will be non-resident, 1 in 5 (1 in 4 prospective cover). There are both junior and middle grade rotas within the neonatal unit. These are staffed by a mixture of specialty doctors, trainees and advanced neonatal nurse practitioners. Applications from individuals who may wish to work on a part-time or job share basis will be considered.
