Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.

Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people, and with an annual budget of around £60 million, Public Health Scotland will provide authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It will lead the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and will contribute to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence. 

The Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate are seeking to appoint a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Virology. This will be a fixed term post or a secondment until the 30 September 2022.  

The Hours / Sessions for this post are negotiable.

The post will be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh (currently home working) and an expectation for some potential travel between the base and other PHS Offices 

The post-holder(s) shall work closely with the Public Health Microbiology team as part of The Clinical and Protecting Health Directorate. They will provide clinical and strategic leadership in their topical area, working with a range of policy makers and public health/health protection service providers and stakeholders across all sectors in Scotland and beyond. 
Salary placement will start at the bottom point of the scale unless individuals have previous NHS experience, (hours of this post will be subject to applicant and discussed at interview).

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. 

Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Candidates must have current HCPC registration at the time of applying.

Due to our national response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic there will be an expectation for weekend and/or out of hours working
