Technical Manager- In technical charge of a sub-division  of the department.

This includes: providing a high quality diagnostic service to users and patients by performing and ensuring staff perform a range of virology I serology and molecular specialist activities used in the diagnosis of infection. Managing a group of staff composed of specialist, registered,  trainee  healthcare  scientists  and  Healthcare support workers.  You will perform as lead specialist in designated areas of responsibility. You would be expected to keep up to date with scientific and managerial developments.  The position reports to the Laboratory Site  Manager in the provision of an efficient, expert, and cost effective Virology service within the Laboratory Medicine Directorate.  The West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre gives a Virology Service for NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Glasgow and the West of Scotland. The department provides a full and comprehensive Virology service including Hospital based users, General Practice users, Private Sector users and to colleagues in the University and teaching sectors. It is essential that you are registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist and require a Masters degree (MSc) in Biomedical Science or hold the Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (F.I.B.M.S.)  The post is based at the West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre at Glasgow Royal Infirmary which is a state of the art facility which contains extensive virology/serology/molecular equipment such as Alinity" i and Alinity M analysers, Vidas and DS2 analysers, several various PCR systems including a  whole  genome sequencer. The laboratory processes around 250,000 specimens per annum and in addition to routine virology sections, also includes Specialist Blood borne virus testing and sequencing.  The laboratory holds UKAS accreditation for the ISO 15189 standard.  The shift pattern for this post is over 5 days over 7.
