Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6)(2.0WTE/37.5 hours)

Primary Care Mental Health

We are looking for two creative, innovative and experienced Occupational Therapists who are confident in their core skills to take up the exciting opportunity of becoming part of the Renfrewshire Occupational Therapy Community Mental Health Services with specific input to Primary Care.

These posts are recognised as an area for development and service improvement as identified in the 10 year Mental Health Strategy. 

It is anticipated the posts will work within GP clusters;

  • To provide proactive and inclusive occupational therapy provision in primary care supports access to prevention and early intervention.
  • To provide streamlined support for people with co-morbidities who have complex difficulties and high levels of need.
  • To reduce patient reliance on the GP and specialist MH services (example attached).
  • Enables availability of primary care occupational therapy improving access to the right care, at the right time and in the right place.

You will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills and a collaborative clinical style will be essential.

Responsibilities will include time limited core skills interventions, specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment for both individuals and groups. You will also be responsible for making recommendations to facilitate safe and independent living.

A key role will be involvement in supporting clients with recovery through structure to their day including vocational rehabilitation, access to leisure and education and employability through individual and group work. 

You will be part of a dedicated Occupational Therapy MH service lead by a Team Lead and Band 6/5 staff.

You will receive professional support and supervision from the Lead Occupational Therapist, will gain access to appropriate training and will have protected CPD time.
