Job Advert

As a vital part of NHSScotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s mission is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.

NHSScotland Assure is the new centre of expertise focusing on quality in the built environment through providing a suite of services launching on 1st June 2021 also encompassing the existing services provided by Health Facilities Scotland and ARHAI (Antimicrobial Resistance Healthcare Associated Infection). Health Facilities Scotland is part of NHS National Services Scotland and provides operational guidance to NHSScotland healthcare bodies on all facilities topics. We deliver and co-ordinate effective advice and support in relation to national facilities, equipping and technical matters which support and improve health and well-being services.

As part of the continued development of NHSScotland Assure, a new Senior Architect role has been developed to help support the Architecture and Design team within Health Facilities Scotland. This is a highly professional, senior and autonomous team comprising Principal Architects, National Fire Safety Advisors and a Principal Structural Engineer, and will be complemented by this new role of Senior Architect as we continue to develop our new range of services and enhance existing services as part of the development of NHSScotland Assure.

We are looking for an experienced and qualified professional who will be responsible for providing expert professional advice to NHSScotland and represent NHScotland in dealings with other organisations through leading and contributing to the key work streams of the team. The team is responsible for the NHSScotland Design Assessment Process (NDAP), it’s implementation and development, as well as providing subject matter expert advice for Key Stage Assurance Reviews (KSAR). The team is also responsible for all relevant Health Facilities Scotland guidance documentation, including its development and revision as well as any associated research streams.

A good understanding and experience of healthcare design and technical issues is a key requirement for the role. Potential candidates should have an understanding of the role and work of HFS and Property and Capital Planning, as well as an awareness of the issues involved in providing assurance and compliance on healthcare projects, a key priority for NHSScotland Assure.

The post holder will be a qualified Architect (registered with the ARB), and will have extensive architectural experience, as well as a good understanding of the key issues and priorities in Healthcare design, construction and maintenance.

The post holder will be expected to work with other professionals and subject matter experts within Property and Capital Planning and Engineering, Environment and Decontamination. The post holder will also work with colleagues from other areas of NHSScotland Assure / HFS including Infection Control, FM, and Business Support.

Our benefits package includes a pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits. As this is a newly created post the current band is provisional at this stage. The banding will be reviewed following a reasonable time after initial posting e.g. normally after 4-6 months in post.
