We are seeking to appoint a Pharmacist National Clinical Lead, to provide clinical leadership to the NHS Scotland Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee (ADTCs) Collaborative and Scottish Medicines Consortium. The post holder will work across both teams.
The Scottish Government Access to New Medicines Policy in 2013 and 2016 set out a number of recommendations for SMC and ADTCC and this post will play a key role in continuing to deliver this work.
Healthcare Improvement Scotland hosts the ADTC Collaborative and provides clinical leadership and support to strengthen regional and national working between the ADTCs and develop “once for Scotland” and collaborative solutions to complex medicines governance issues. The post holder will be the National Pharmacy Lead for this work.
The post has a key role in contributing to SMC strategic and policy development and the provision of specialist pharmaceutical advice to the Scottish Government Health and Social Care Department (Medicines Policy team). This post requires experience of managing the entry of new medicines in to the NHS at local and national level, critical appraisal skills, excellent leadership skills, and an extensive knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics. The post-holder supports the delivery of robust monthly advice to Health Boards on new medicines and deputises for the SMC Chief Pharmacist when required.
Building positive and collaborative relationships, liaison and influence internally across teams and with key stakeholders including the NHS and industry, direct experience in the managed introduction of new medicines, working with Area Drug and Therapeutics Committees and experience of working at a national level are all essential to the role. The post holder will report to the HIS Chief Pharmacist.
